The City of Peoria, Arizona was established in the 1880’s and has similar roots as its surrounding neighbors. It is a city with farming origins. Peoria was incorporated in 1954. People flocked to Peoria, Arizona because of its warm climate and small-town atmosphere.

Although Peoria, Arizona has very humble origins, it has blossomed into one of the fastest growing cities in the West Valley. From its beginnings, residences in the new community sprang up, and a school and Post Office were established by 1889. More people followed the original families and Peoria continued to grow as a farming community.

Today, Peoria is Arizona's 4th largest city in terms of incorporated area, and 9th largest city in ?terms of population. It is the spring training home of the San Diego Padres and Seattle Mariners who share the Peoria Sports Complex.

In July 2008, Money Magazine listed Peoria in the "Top 100 Places to Live". Many families have relocated to Peoria to enjoy the strong business environment, the cultural and recreational activities, and the proximity of other Metropolitan Phoenix communities.

Peoria is home of the majestic Lake Pleasant Regional Park and Lake Pleasant Marina. It is also attributed for bringing a large variety of arts and culture to the West Valley. It features the Polar Ice center and Turf Soaring. The City of Peoria has a number of parks and recreational facilities available for public use.
